Personal Life
Richard Jefferson took birth on 21st June 1980 in Los Angeles, California to a single mother, Meekness LeCato. He was brought up in the capital of Arizona, Phoneix. His stepfather was a Christian missionary who served in Africa, Jefferson often went along with his stepfather and mother to bring clothes, food and other necessities to people who could not afford it and at times even paying for children’s school education.
Jefferson studied in West Phoneix at the Moon Valley High School; he was never really keen on studying at school but took great interest in basketball and was a crucial part of the school’s team which in 1998 emerged winners of the 4A State Championship.
While attending the University of Arizona from 1998 to 2001, under Lute Olson, the Hall of fame basketball coach played basketball. He played a total of eighty-four games with an average point of 11.2. His college team played at the national championship game in 2001. During his college basketball career, Jefferson was an all-Final Four selection and an all-Midwest Regional.
He went on to become inducted into the Basketball Hall of Honour in 2012 at the Pac-12 Conference. Jefferson’s donation of 3.5 million dollars in the year 2007 for the basketball cum volleyball practice facility in University of Arizona, which was named after him by the University was recorded as the biggest donation ever received in the University’s history. Richard was engaged to Kesha Nicole Nichols, a dancer, they were set to marry in 2009 but just a few hours before the wedding Jefferson called off the wedding.
Career
After graduating college, Jefferson played for the New Jersey Nets for seven seasons. In 2004, he was a part of the American Men’s Olympic team for the 2004 Athens Olympics, the team won bronze. The same year, he signed a six-year-long contract with the New Jersey Nets. Richard proved to be a valuable asset to the team with high-level performances throughout the game. On 4 December 2007, he overtook Kerry Kittles to set the record of Net’s second all-time leading player.
In 2008, Richard was playing for the Milwaukee Bucks where he told the media that he was excited to play with Michael Redd. The Bucks traded him to San Antonio Spurs in 2009, for a brief period he signed out of the contract and then resigned with the same team in 2010. From 2012 to 2013 he was with the Golden State Warriors. His next team was Utah Jazz from 2013 to 2014.The next two years saw him with Dallas Mavericks. Jefferson appeared for Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015. According to the NBA history, the team was the first to win a championship after going down with 3-1 during the series. In 2017 he was traded to Atlanta Hawks.Jefferson’s latest contract was signed with Denver Nuggets for 2.3 million dollars for a period of one year.
