Kara Lawson was born in the year 1981 on February 14. She grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. She went to the Sidwell Friends School where she developed interest towards basketball and soccer. After some years, she changed her school and went to the West Springfield High School. In the year 1999, Kara appeared in her first tournament WBCA High School All-America Game. She was awarded the MVP honors and also scored twenty points.

When Kara went to the University of Tennessee, she joined the basketball team, coached by Pat Summitt. Besides basketball, she also excelled in educational field. She earned a bachelors degree in Finance from the university in the year 2003. In the same year, Kara was awarded with Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award for being the best senior player in the height category of 5’ 8" by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Career
In the year 2001, Kara Lawson participated in the World University Games which was organised in Beijing, China. In the year 2003, she made her first appearance in the NBA draft series. She appeared in the 2003 WNBA draft and was selected by Detroit Shock. Later, in the year 2008, Kara made her first appearance in the 2008 Summer Olympics where she was awarded and honoured with a gold medal.
