Daniel Johns is a singer, songwriter and musician, who based in Australia. He is popular as an ex-member of ‘Silverchair’ the band. He is a recipient of numerous awards including the ARIA Music Awards.

Personal Life

Daniel Paul Johns was born as the eldest child of Julia and Greg on 22nd April 1979. He was born and raised in the suburb called Merewether in New South Wales in Australia. He was two siblings who are younger to him. He studied at the Newcastle High School in Australia graduating in the year 1996.

In 1997, there were rumours that Daniel was suffering from depression and that he had an eating disorder. Later in an interview with Rolling Stone, he explained the cause of his weight loss and emotional disturbance as anorexia nervosa. At a time, his weight decreased to below 50 kg. He has also been a victim of reactive arthritis and anorexia.

In 2002, Daniel proposed to his girlfriend of many years, actress, model and singer, Natalie Imbruglia. Within one year in 2003, they tied the knot on 30th December. The marriage did not last long, in 2005 the couple filed for a mutual divorce as they felt the time spent apart has led to distance them from each other.

Then, Johns was in a relationship with Louise Van der Vorst, a model based in Australia. They shifted to New York in 2009, to expand her career. However they split up in 2012, the breakup was initiated by Daniel Johns. In 2013 he began his relationship with Estelita Huijer who is a fashion designer. Johns takes an active interest in animal rights functions, he has declared himself as a vegan in the year 1998. In one of his songs, he has tried to convey the message of animal liberation.

Career

Johns came into the limelight with the recording of a song titled ‘Tomorrow’ by his band ‘The Innocent Criminals’. The band consists of Johns, Chris Joannou, and Ben Gillies. The band was renamed ‘Silverchair’. In 1994, they signed a contract for three albums with Sony Music. Their first song album that released was in 2015 named ‘Frog stomp’. It was placed at number one on the singles chart in Australia for about six weeks straight. The music band’s next released was in 1997, titled ‘Freak Show’, this was followed by a released in 1999 called ‘Neon Ballroom’. After their album ‘Diorama’ in 2002, they were on a long break. For ‘Diorama’ he won the ARIA Award under the category of ‘Producer of the Year’.

While on break, Daniel Johns worked with Paul Mac on ‘The Dissociatives’, they toured with artists Julian Hamilton, James Hazelwood and Kim Moyes. The Silverchair united again in 2015 and then released albums ‘Young Modern’. However, in 2011, the band was dissolved due to differences. Daniel Johns’ song as a solo artist was released in January 2015, it was named ‘Aerial Love’. It was ranked at number 21 on the Singles Chart. He has also earned a nomination for ‘Best Male Artist’ at ARIA Awards in 2015.
