Sarah's schooling was done along with her sister Anna in Midland where they both used to attend Midland Secondary School. At the age of 14, she met Rory Bushfield, a freeskier, at a ski camp in Whistler, British Columbia. Finally, they both married each other after staying together for 14 years on September 25th, 2010 in Pemberton, British Columbia.
Since then they both went to live in Squamish, British Columbia. Sarah’s mother who was an artist separated from her father when they were young and moved to Squamish in 2008 where she lived with Sarah and Rory. Career She was the first world champion when halfpipe event marked its debut at the Freestyle World Ski Championship in 2005.
Career
Sarah Jean Burke was a Canadian women’s freestyle skier, a trailblazer in the superpipe competition. In the year 2005, she bagged down the halfpipe world championship. She owns four gold medals in winter x games. She successfully persuaded to the International Olympics Committee to link it the 2014 winter Olympics. Personal Life Sarah Jean Burke was born on September 3, 1982, in Barrie, Canada. She was a Canadian by nationality. Her parents were Goerdon Burke and Jan Phelan. The both were an artist by profession.
Burke was a frequent participant in skiing movies including ‘Propaganda’. There she displayed her amazing skills, including a few backflips. She has some of the records still attached to her name. Burke occupied the first position in the 2001 US Free Skiing Open in the halfpipe event and a second position on slope sky.
Coming down to a few of her achievements, she bagged down ESPN’s award for a female skier of the year 2001 and she was also voted as the best female athlete at the ESPY Awards. On Jan 10th, 2012 Burke’s skiing career came to a standstill when she was seriously injured while practising on the park city mountain resort eagle superpipe. She went into a cardiac arrest on the ski slope after she fell onto her head.
She was immediately taken to the University Of Utah Hospital where she slipped down to coma. The next day, she had a neurosurgery in order to repair a tear in her vertebral artery. Later, Sarah escaped her injuries as she left them for the heavenly abode on January 19th, 2012. After her death, her agent started a campaign to raise $550,000 to pay her hospital dues as she was not insured under the insurance policy when she took part in the Canada Freestyle Ski Association.
His agent also established a foundation in order to respect and honour Sarah’s legacy and to promote her ideas that she used to share. On February 15, 2014, Burke was honoured on the National Flag Day of Canada. The flag was later handed over to Burke's family as a tribute to her legacy.
