Jonathan Ray Banks was born on January 31, 1947 in Washington, D.C. He is the son of Elena Banks, who worked for the CIA and was a professor at Indiana State University. Banks went to Indiana University Bloomington, where he was a schoolmate of actor Kevin Kline. Banks dropped out of college to join a touring play production of Hair as a stage supervisor. He also toured Australia with the Hair stage production. In 1974, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career in theater.
Jonathan made his TV debut when appeared in the 1976 drama series 'Barnaby Jones'. In 1981, the actor was cast as Dutch Schultz in the drama 'The Gangster Chronicles'. After a year, he did the films 'Frances' and '48 Hrs'. In 1984, Banks played Zack in the flick 'Beverly Hills Cop'.
Banks got his biggest break when he was cast as Mike Ehrmantraut in the crime drama series 'Breaking Bad' in 2009. In 2014, Banks appeared in the series 'Community'. He then joined the cast of 'Better Call Saul'.
In 2019, it was announced that "El Camino," a feature film based on Jesse Pinkman in the fallout of the "Breaking Bad" series finale was going to be released on Netflix in October 2019. Netflix was very tight-lipped about plot spoilers for "El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie," yet Jonathan Banks let it slip that he will show up in the film as his fan most loved character Mike Ehrmantraut. The series maker Vince Gilligan wrote, directed, and produced the movie, while Aaron Paul repeated his role as Jesse Pinkman. The plot pursues what happens to Pinkman following the events of the series finale. A few actors, including Jesse Plemons, Krysten Ritter, Jonathan Banks, and Bryan Cranston, repeat their unique roles from the series, every one of them appearing in flashback arrangements. El Camino was additionally the last film to feature Robert Forster, who passed on upon the arrival of its release.
In September 2019, at the 2019 Emmy Awards show, Banks was nominated for the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award because of his performance on Better Call Saul.
Banks married his first spouse in 1968. The couple had one little girl. After his separation in 1970, Banks married his second spouse in 1990. They had twins together. Banks also has a stepdaughter from this marriage. Mr. Banks has three children Claudio Jon Henry Banks, Joanna Rae Banks Morgan, and Rebecca Elena Banks.
