Personal Life
Tammie’s year of birth is not noted down in her biography, however it is documented that she was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Chase and Laura Souza. She has three siblings and among them is Patty Souza who is a meteorologist. Tammie and her sister Patty were at one point the only sisters to be active meteorologists on TV in the USA. Growing up, Tammie had to look up to her mother for motivation as her dad was constantly on the move due to work commitments at NASA Apollo space program.
Souza grew up in San Diego where she graduated from Nancy High School and later joined San Diego State University and earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology. For her meteorological career, Tammie studied at Mississippi State University and later graduated with her master’s degree in broadcast meteorology. In her college days, Tammie also received a pilot aircraft license and that proved that she was a jack of all trades.
Looking into Tammie’s personal life she is currently married to Greg Hendricks and the two live a private life together happily in Chicago. The couple has a son together and is deeply in love and displays no sign of divorce.
Career
Souza’s career took off in California where she worked at KHSL. This subsequently led to a move to Milwaukee where she was appointed Chief Meteorologist at WDJT-TV. Tammie then moved to work at WMAQ/ NBC 5 in Chicago and served there for six years. When WTSP’s chief meteorologist Dick Fletcher passed on in 2008, Tammie took his position at the station. Currently, Tammie works at WCAU, a NBC-owned station in Philadelphia. She joined them in 2017.
Tammie’s impeccable career has earned her 17 Emmy Nomination of which she won 6. She received awards for the Best Weather and Science Report and Best Weathercast. Souza’s coverage of the slave ship found in Lake Michigan earned her first place honors from the Associated Press and a nomination by the National Association of Black Journalists. With all the above mentioned accolades and her track record in meteorology, Tammie has a place in the board of both the National Weather Association and American Meteorological Society.
Before her appearances on TV as a meteorologist, Tammie had a couple of acting roles. She appeared in Assault of the Killer Bimbos, an American comedy film that was released in 1988. Tammie, according to sources is known to have a net worth of $1 million though her annual salary is not disclosed. As an active social media user, Tammie took to Facebook to announce her return to NBC Chicago. On Facebook, Tammie has a following of more than 30 thousand, 2 thousand on Instagram and 15 thousand on Twitter. On social media, Tammie has also displayed great interest in playing lacrosse, acting and singing.
