Lucy Lawless was born as Lucille Frances "Lucy" Ryan on the 29th of March, in the year 1968, in the Mount Albert area of Auckland in the country of New Zealand. Lucille Frances "Lucy" Ryan’s parents are Frank Ryan and Julie Ryan, her father, Frank Ryan was the mayor of Mount Albert and was a banker by profession, while her mother Julie Ryan is a teacher by profession. Lucille Frances "Lucy" Ryan has a total of 5 siblings, which include a sister and four brothers. Lucille Frances "Lucy" Ryan is the fifth to be born amongst the 6 children.
Lucille Frances "Lucy" Ryan began her career on stage at the tender age of 10 when she starred in a musical in school, later she started acting while she was a student at her secondary school. Eventually, Lucille Frances "Lucy" Ryan attended the reputed Marist College located in Auckland. When she turned 18, like other young countrymen of her age, she too decided to go abroad to experience the overseas world and then travelled to the countries of Australia and the continent of Europe.

Lucille Frances "Lucy" Ryan made her television debut on the widely popular show called “Funny Business”.The show was a comedy series which featured sketch comedy and it had a good following in the country of New Zealand, it was on this show that Lucille Frances "Lucy" Ryan appeared for 2 and a half seasons. Post this she went on to study drama in Vancouver, located in British Columbia in the country of Canada, at William Davis Centre for Actors Study.
Lucy Lawless was then seen in Hercules and the Amazon Women, which was a direct to television movie that was released in the year 1994.
