Laura Leggett Linney was born on February 5, 1964 in Manhattan, New York. Linney was born into a dramatic family, her father was the playwright Romulus Linney. She graduated from Brown University in 1986 and later studied at the Arts Theater School in Moscow and graduated from the Juilliard School in New York City in 1990. She immediately started performing on Broadway, eventually procuring respect and commendation for her roles in Six Degrees of Separation and Hedda Gabler.
Linney started her movie career with a little part in Lorenzo's Oil (1992), trailed by a role in the comedy Dave (1993). In 1993 she appeared as Mary Ann Singleton in Tales of the City, the TV miniseries based on Armistead Maupin's book. Her leap forward came in 1996 when she featured inverse Richard Gere in the film Primal Fear, a spine chiller that rotates around the homicide of an archbishop.
Linney is also known for being a stage actor, collecting Tony Award nominations for her roles in The Crucible (2002), Sight Unseen (2004), Time Stands Still (2010), and The Little Foxes (2017). From 2010 to 2013 she featured as a high-teacher stricken by cancer in the TV dramedy series The Big C on the cable channel Showtime. She won a Golden Globe Award for the role in 2011 and an Emmy Award in 2013. Linney's later TV work included the Netflix series Ozark in which she depicted the spouse of a tax criminal working for a drug cartel.
In September 2019, at the 2019 Emmy Awards show, Laura was nominated for the Lead Actress in a Drama Series because of performance on Ozark.
Laura Linney has been married twice in her lifetime. Her first marriage was to actor and playwright, David Adkins. They were married from 1995 to 2000. They had met at the performing arts center, Juilliard School. The couple isolated in 1998 preceding their divorce concluding in 2000. They had no children together.
In 2004, Laura found love again when she met realtor and Marc Schauer. They ended up engaged in 2007 and after two years in May 2009, they got married. On her big day, Northern Ireland actor Liam Neeson strolled her down the wedding aisle.
Linney and her significant other hung tight for a long time before giving birth to their first youngster, a child named Bennett Armistead Schauer in January 2014. Linney was 50 years of age when she brought forth her first infant.
