Gladys Maria Knight on May 28, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia. Shee started out making a course for fame at an early age. She made her performance debut at 4 years old, singing at the Mount Mariah Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Not long after, she won a prize for her performance on the broadcast Ted Mack Amateur Hour.
In 1952, an 8-year-old Knight framed "the Pips" with her brother and sister, Merald and Brenda, and two cousins, Elenor and William Guest. Other cousins, Edward Patten, and Langston George later joined the gathering, after Brenda and Elenor left to get married. With youthful Gladys providing the throaty vocals and the Pips providing noteworthy harmonies and enlivened dance routines, the gathering before long earned a spot on the supposed "Chitlin Circuit" in the South, opening for famous acts like Jackie Wilson and Sam Cooke.
After the group opened for R&B legends during the 1950s, they then made a move for Motown to become stars of pop music. As Gladys Knight and the Pips, they recorded their signature famous tune, "Midnight Train to Georgia." Knight left the Pips in 1989, and continued performing and record as an independent performance artist. She would proceed to have a significantly greater career without anyone else holding her back. She became a legend in the R&B genre with a catalog filled with classic tracks.
Knight was asked to play a character known as Bee on a new show called the Masked Singer in 2019. In October 2019, the dedicated fans of the Masked Singer were disappointed when one of the panelists, Jenny McCarthy claimed on Twitter that the show was going on a break.
Knight married her first spouse, an Atlanta musician named Jimmy Newman, at age 16. The marriage produced two children, James and Kenya, before Newman, a drug addict, deserted the family and kicked the bucket just a couple of years after. Her subsequent marriage, to Barry Hankerson, finished bitterly in 1979 following five years in a prolonged guardianship fight over their child, Shanga. Knight married the author and persuasive orator Les Brown in 1995 but that marriage finished in 1997.
In April 2001, Knight married William McDowell, a corporate expert she had purportedly met 10 years sooner, however, had just started dating the past January.
