Chayanne is a Puerto Rican Latin Pop singer, composer and actor who successfully sold over 30 million copies of his solo album. He has also acted in TV serials, daily soaps and in films as well and is at a pioneering position at the music industry.

Chayanne is the stage name for Elmer Figueroa Arce and he was born in 28th June, 1968 was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He was although raised in San Lorenzo and his father was a Sales manager and his mother was a teacher. He was of Puerto Rican nationality and is the third of five siblings. He was nicknamed ‘Chayanne’ by his mother who dies in 2014 of cancer. He was named so by her because of his love for the 1950’s American series Cheyenne.
Chayanne studied dance in a famous school where it is also believed that Michael Jackson learnt dance too. But he now lives in Miami, Florida and his marriage was solemnized to Marilisa Maronese in 1989 who was an attorney and also a former beauty queen from Venezuela. Both of them have 2 children together, a son named Lorenzo Valentino Figueroa in August 1997 and a daughter name Isadora Sofia in December 2001.
Career
Chayanne started his debut in the late 70’s for Menudo but was not accepted by the producers due to his age being less so he joined a different group instead which was named Los Chicos. In 1984, with the disintegration of Los Chicos, Chayanne became a solo singer and released his debut album that year followed by another album, the next year. In 1987, he collaborated with Sony music and in 1988 he sang more songs that were a hit at that time.
At the Grammy Awards in 1989, he became the spokesperson for Pepsi. Following this, Chayanne kept on making singles which were being a hit of the charts and his songs started receiving Grammy nominations making them rise in the charts. In 2003 he provided a special appearance to the Miss Universe pageant and in 2005 he completed a tour with Marc Anthony.
He also starred in various soaps like the comedy serial Generaciones. In 1994, he played himself in Volver an Empezaar and also starred in Linda Sara opposite Dayanara Torres who was a former beauty queen. In 1998 he started with his Hollywood debut and conducted the role of a Cuban dancer with Vanessa L Williams in Dance with Me. In 2010 he made a Hispanic American Spanish dubbing of Flynn Rider in the Walt Disney Animation Studios for the movie Tangled.
