Scandal
Fualaau initially met his teacher, Mary Kay Letourneau while he was in second grade. She later turned into his 6th grade teacher at Shorewood Elementary School in Burien, Washington. As a prominent instructor and a married mother of four, she created a friendship between him and her oldest child, Steve, who was just a year younger than Vili.
The public saw Vili as a victim because his teacher, Mary Kay Letourneau influenced him to spend time with her by praising his artistic gifts. During his 6th grade year in school, Fualaau celebrated his thirteenth birthday celebration. Soon after, it was revealed that he was in an inappropriate relationship with Letourneau.
When she ended up pregnant with Fualaau's youngster, she went to jail because she was an adult engaging in sexual relations with a minor.
In interviews, Fualaau professed to be the one that tried to change their companionship into a relationship. In a statement to Dateline TV, he said, I remember I used to like plan the next day, like 'What I was gonna do, what was gonna say, what I was gonna like - what surprise I was gonna leave on her desk.”
Personal Life Relationships
After Letourneau's release from jail in 2004, Fualaau had charges against Letourneau lifted. He was a full adult at 21 years of age and felt that he was still in love with his teacher. In May 2005, the couple got married at a winery in Woodinville, Washington. They sold their wedding video to the press and media claiming that they felt no shame about their relationship.
Fualaau split from Letourneau in 2017. He claimed the decision was a monetary choice made by the couple because of his passion to start a marijuana business.
Law Trouble
Fualaau was arrested for drunk driving in February of 2018. While drunk driving, he struck two vehicles in Burian, Washington. When the police arrived, he was supposedly bewildered and slurring his speech when they were questioning him. The media speculated that Mary Kay touched base at the scene of the accident and advised Fualaau not to take a sobriety test without their legal advisor being present.
