Susan Mikula is known as an American artist and photographer.

Career

After many hard years of working in the art industry and serving on an art jury, Mikula finally had her first solo photography exhibition in 1998. Susan’s photography is unique to fans because she uses older technology such as film to produce her photographs. In her ancient toolbox are pinhole cameras and Polaroid cameras.

To get her unique style down, Susan Mikula works with a mix of old and new technologies. She is creative in constructing her work within self-imposed limitations. She often works with available light, modifying vintage cameras, collecting film that isn’t made anymore, and experimenting with new instant film technology.

Personal Life

Mikula resides in both New York City and the rural region of Western Massachusetts. Living in the two contrasting locations adds to her art and creative motivations. Her art has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in major cities like New York, San Francisco, Miami, Los Angeles, and Northampton and Provincetown Massachusetts. Her prized work is private collections in the United States and Europe, as well as in the Permanent Collection of the US Embassy, Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, Art in Embassies, US Department of State.
