Sage Marie Steele was born November 28, 1972 in the Panama Canal Zone. Mother Mona Steele, father, Gary Steele, in the 1960s, was one of the first African-Americans who played football at West Point. In addition to the African-American roots, she also has Irish and Italian descent. Sage has two brothers, Courtney and Chad.

In the early years Sage often had to move with her parents, she spent part of his childhood in Greece and Belgium. After retiring from WISH-TV, from 1998 to 2001, Steele has continued her career of sports reporter at the ABC affiliate WFTS in Tampa. In addition to the WISH-TV, she worked in a Fox Sports Florida, covering Florida sporting events and news of local football teams.
In 2001 she moved to the state of Maryland, where she has worked at Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic in Bethesda to 2007. On this channel, she worked as a reporter and an anchor a night sports TV program SportsNite. While she was working on Comcast SportsNet, Sage worked as the reporter for the Baltimore Ravens.
