Personal Life
Jeffrey Garten was born on October 29,1946 to a family of Jews. He is the son of Melvin Garten and Ruth Engelman-Garten. Jeffrey Garten’s father, Melvin, fought the Korean War, the Vietnam War and even the World War II, for his services he was presented with the Distinguished Service Cross for his heroism on Pork Chop Hill in Korea, in 1953. Jeffrey Garten’s brother, Allan has retired as a federal prosecutor who was located in Portland in the state of Oregon.
In the year 1968, Jeffrey Garten got married to Ina Rosenberg. She currently hosts Barefoot Contessa, which is aired on the Food Network. For her work on the show she has earned herself the Emmy Award, thrice and has also been the author for ten top selling cook-books, even the 2016, best seller Cooking For Jeffrey. The couple currently live in Southport in the state of Connecticut and also have a residence in East Hampton in the state of New York.
Career
He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the prestigious Dartmouth College in the same year as he got married and he went to earn his M.A and Ph.D. from Johns Hopkin’s University’s School of Advanced International Studies, in the years 1972 and 1980 respectively.
Jeffrey Garten has also served in the army of the United States of America from the year 1968 to 1972, during these years he has held the ranks of Lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne Division and he also served under the commanding general of the US Special Forces as the Captain and aide-de camp.
In the year 1971, Jeffrey Garten was one of the advisors of the Royal Thai Army. Jeffrey Garten has also served the Ford, Carter and Nixon administrations in numerous economic and foreign policy positions. He has also lived in the city of Tokyo to oversee what can be described as the largest restructuring of the era in the international corporate world.
Jeffrey Garten also serves on high posts of various philanthropic and corporate boards. During the years between 1996 and 2005, Jeffrey Garten was the dean at the school and thereafter the decade beginning from 2005, Jeffrey Garten was the Juan Trippe Professor in finance, business and international trade.
Prior to all this Jeffrey Garten was associated with the Bill Clinton administration during the years 1993-1995 as the Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade. Jeffrey Garten has also served as the managing director at the Lehman Brothers and the Blackstone Group on Wall Street.
Jeffrey Garten is the author of numerous books based upon the global political economy and has published various articles in leading daily newspapers and magazines such as Foreign Affairs, Harvard Business Review, Financial Times, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. Jeffrey Garten also wrote a monthly column from the year 1997 upto 2005 for the Business Week.
