Daniel Gillies was born on March 14, 1976, in Winnipeg, Canada. His folks moved back to their local New Zealand when Daniel was five. He experienced childhood in Invercargill and after that in Hamilton where he went to Hamilton Boys High School. Daniel wound up keen on acting at a youthful age, despite the fact that Daniel's family has a solid medical foundation. His father is a pediatrician, his mom a medical attendant, and his incredible grandfather was the prestigious plastic specialist pioneer, Sir Harold Gillies.
Daniel went to study at Unitec, Auckland for his college education. After realizing that his career openings in New Zealand were restricted, Daniel moved to Sydney, Australia for a brief span, and from that point back to Canada, before winding up in Los Angeles.
Starting in 2010, Daniel had a regular role on The CW drama 'The Vampire Diaries' as a vampire named Elijah Mikaelson. In 2012, Daniel was cast as a lead in the Canadian otherworldly medical series 'Saving Hope', as Dr. Joel Goran. 'Saving Hope' was extended from 13 to 18 episodes in its second season because of its notoriety as the main summer drama in Canada. It was brought back by CTV for a fourth season.
Daniel wrote, directed and featured in the film called the Broken Kingdom, which was released online in October of 2012. It was a long and troublesome work of affection which took nearly five years, and a colossal individual toll, both sincerely and monetarily. The completed product is something of which Daniel is very proud.
In January of 2013, Daniel was cast in 'The Vampire Diaries' spin-off project 'The Originals'. He kept on assuming the popular role of Elijah Mikaelson. The Originals broadcasted by The CW, and in the wake of being successful and popular in the 2013 TV season, it was picked up for more seasons. 'The Originals' started the third season with much fan support. It was a risk making a spin-off but the show paid off because of the performance of Daniel and his fellow actors.
Daniel and his wife Rachael presently live in the urban areas of Los Angeles and Atlanta. They have fun bringing up their children and shuffling their bustling acting schedules while they live on both coasts of the country.
